What Is the YWCC Capstone Program?

The Capstone Program is the Ying Wu College of Computing's signature experiential learning initiative. Each semester, student teams partner with industry sponsors to design, develop, and deliver real solutions to real problems.

These projects mirror professional environments — complete with teamwork, project planning, research, prototyping, and technical execution. Sponsors gain access to fresh perspectives, emerging talent, and innovative solutions. Students gain hands-on experience, mentorship, leadership opportunities, and a portfolio-worthy project.

Our Core Values

We believe in a culture that is modern, relevant, and driven by purpose. Our program empowers students to think creatively, learn independently, and build with confidence. We value curiosity, innovation, integrity, and the courage to take on real-world challenges.

How the Capstone Experience Works

Each capstone project follows a structured process from exploration to delivery.

1

Project Proposal & Matching

Sponsors submit project proposals and are matched with student teams based on skills, interests, and project needs.

  • Submit your project idea and technical requirements
  • Faculty review ensures academic rigor and feasibility
  • Teams are assembled with complementary skill sets
2

Planning & Research

Teams work with sponsors to define scope, create project charters, and research technologies.

  • Kickoff meeting between sponsor and team
  • Project charter and timeline creation
  • Technology stack selection and research
3

Development & Testing

Teams build the solution using industry-standard tools while refining it through feedback cycles.

  • Agile/SCRUM sprint cycles with bi-weekly reviews
  • Regular sponsor communication and feedback
  • Iterative prototyping and user acceptance testing
4

Delivery & Presentation

Teams deliver the final product along with documentation, then present at the Capstone Showcase.

  • Source code and comprehensive documentation
  • User manuals and deployment guides
  • Final presentation at the Campus Center Ballroom event
5

Evaluation & Handover

Sponsors evaluate deliverables and student performance, and receive full project handover materials.

  • Sponsor evaluation of deliverables and team performance
  • Complete project handover with all materials
  • Opportunity to hire standout students
