Elevate Your Digital Future
The YWCC Capstone Program is a hands-on, industry-focused experience where student teams partner with sponsors to explore real research, development, and innovation challenges.
How Capstone R&D Works
Each semester begins with the Capstone Industry Open House, where sponsors present project ideas and recruit their teams. Once matched, students create a one-page project scope that outlines objectives, risks, deliverables, and expected outcomes — establishing a shared understanding between the team, sponsor, and faculty.
Using Agile, Scrum, and the MDDDE lifecycle (Manage, Define, Design, Develop, Evaluate), students move through a structured development process that mirrors modern industry workflows. They write user stories, plan sprints, build iterative prototypes, and present progress through weekly check-ins, midterm evaluations, and a final showcase.
Throughout this journey, sponsors provide guidance, domain expertise, and direction, transforming classroom learning into a real-world collaborative partnership.

Mentorship & Collaboration
Every capstone team is paired with an industry sponsor mentor and a dedicated faculty advisor, creating a dual-mentorship model that bridges academic theory and professional practice.
Sponsors dedicate 1-2 hours per week to guide their teams, providing domain expertise, code reviews, architectural feedback, and career advice. This close collaboration mirrors real-world engineering teams and prepares students for immediate impact in their careers.
Teams use Agile practices — sprint planning, daily standups, retrospectives — with sponsors participating in sprint reviews and backlog prioritization. This structured collaboration ensures continuous alignment between student deliverables and sponsor expectations.
